This is a camoed pill bottle conveniently placed in the base of a large tree in a westbound rest area of I-70.
On October 24, 2002, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, the DC Snipers, were apprehended in this rest area. Their arrest brought peace to the Maryland/DC/Virginia region after a month of paranoia over the random shootings. Muhammad and Malvo were responsible for the death of ten people and the wounding of three others during the shooting spree. Subsequently, they were associated with at least eleven other murders. Muhammad was executed in Virginia on November 10, 2009 and Malvo was sentenced to life without parole. However the Supreme Court has ruled that sentencing a minor to life without parole constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment" and has ordered a new sentencing hearing for Malvo. We placed this cache to honor the hard work of the federal, state, and local police officials who worked this case 24/7 and as a rememberance for the victims. If you are in the rest area, also look for West Bound Rest Area (GC2B3DN) by LisaandDarin. The listed coordinates are the average of 150 readings with a Garmin 60CSx. Coordinate error was 14.5 ft. This is a traditional hide. Congratulations to remedygone for FTF and C-finder for STF. Both had found the cache within 70 minutes its of being published. It is a tough world out there for FTFs.
