Park at the major wayside west of the path (see add'l waypoint). No math, projections, puzzles, poisonous plants, crevasses, bushwhacking etc etc. (We could have been nasty and evil, but we will leave that to others - this time). Bring your own pen. Rite on Rain (or Shine) paper. No room for geo-trash, so leave it in your car.
It all began on March 4, 2005. Commander Salamander hit the trail. They were introduced to geocaching by Legoboyjj (geocacher extraordinaire) during their nightly 'top of the fence' conversation. (Soon thereafter a geo-gate was created). Although I am not sure when, the name was eventually changed to Rain or Shine. The story goes, legend has it, after a long day of spring caching in heavy rain, they discovered that not even foul foul weather could curb the enthusiam and joy they experienced with their newly found hobby. After a hot shower and some celebratory libation, buddha spoke. A name change was in order. You can still find a few Commander logs here and there, but they are rare.
As of this listing, Commander Salamander has LOGGED 1882 finds. Those in the know (BeavTeam) KNOW that the number of FINDS is truly over 2000. Rain or Shine likes to keep their finds in their 'pockets', only logging their accomplishments when 'time' permits. Not sure why, maybe buddha can answer that. Maybe we should have named this cache - Commander Salamander, Slowest Loggers In The West.
About the cache - BeavTeam marvels at this area everytime they journey back from Central Oregon. Well, we finally found a route there. Was it worth it. Without a doubt, YES. The area and view are great. It is a short hike at 3 miles roundtrip. The elevation gain is a mere 700 feet. Plan accordingly. I assure you it is worth every step. There appears to be a spring on the lower part of the path. You probably want some 'more than tennis shoes' type footwear. There is a path all the way to the cache. No bushwhacking required. No poison oak on path. If you have to bushwhack or find some poison oak, we DO NOT want to hear about it.
Words of advice. It is a short walk to the path (east). THIS SHORT WALK IS ALONG HWY 58, CARS/TRUCKS MOVE FAST. Pay attention to the info on the sheet at parking waypoint. Stay on the path that shows to be more travelled.
As always, replace the cache as you found it so others may enjoy the hunt.
