Colonial House
Pipiriki Village was a major centre of the Hauhau movement during
the land wars. The headquarters of Whanganui National Park are
located here. The cache is located within the grounds of the
historic Colonial House, which unfortunately appears to be empty
and a little neglected at the time of placing the cache.
We recommend you only attempt this one during the day, as
although it is on public property you could arouse local's
suspicions if done late in the day or with torches!
Several short walks around the village of Pipiriki take you
through the bush to different vantage points. Canoes can be paddled
through the park on the Whanganui River. The River Road runs from
Wanganui to Pipiriki and affords views of the Whanganui River.
Along the way you’ll see beautifully restored marae (meeting
grounds). Visitors must obtain permission before entering these
wahi tapu (sacred sites).
This is a popular place for tourists, so stealth is required at all
times, and please ensure cache is replaced securely.
Cache is a 200 ml sistema with a logsheet only so
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN.
When reaching for this cache you may encounter a few cobwebs,
but don't let this put you off!
