Geocache Description:

Your Maryland

Top 20

Challenge

THIS IS A CHALLENGE CACHE. THERE IS A VERY SMALL CONTAINER at THE POSTED COORDINATES. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE BEFORE LOGGING THE CACHE!

This challenge is all about finding your "Top 10 Favorite" caches of the Top 20 favorite caches in the state of Maryland. Many Geocaching Premium Members have been casting their votes for their favorite geocaches. Using Groundspeak's Favorite Filter, Premium Members can search for those favorite geocaches as voted on by your fellow geocachers in each state now.

What is Maryland's current Top 20 Geocaches?
To find out follow these directions:
  1. From the Geocaching WEBSITE home page in the top ares of search type "Maryland, United States" then press on the magnifier to search.
  2. Once you land on the page that includes over 12,000 hides in Maryland press on the column heading that has the word "Favorites" that will place the caches with the most favorites at the top of the list.
  3. Now count down 20 caches then follow these 20 back up looking to see if you have a smiley face on any of them. If you have 10 smiley faces then you qualify to log a find on this hide.

If you want an easier way to do this then use this project GC checker...

PGC Checker

This filter may only work if you are a premium member. If you are not a premium member ask someone you know to run this query for you.

To be eligible to find the final geocache container for this challenge continue on with these very simple steps.

1. At the time you decide to accept this challenge post a note on this cache page listing any 10
of the currently listed Top 20 geocaches in the state of Maryland.
2. Go find and log those 10 caches, over achievers are welcome to find all 20 but that isn't required.
3. Then you can seek and log this cache, list the geocaches you found and the date you found them in your cache log on this page.
(A bookmark may also be used to substitute writing out another list that includes your found dates)
Project GC also outputs a nice example log.

Questions and Answers:
  1. Do previous finds count? - Yes
  2. What if the Top 20 in the state change before I finish finding them? - You only need to find the 10 that you opted in for as posted in your note.
  3. If the Top 20 changed and I like that list better can I start all over? - Sure, just delete your first note listing, post a new opt in list and continue with your Top 10 challenge.
  4. Can I substitute favorites from other states? - No this challenge is for caches in the state of Maryland only.
  5. Is there a time limit? - No, you can take as many days, weeks, months or years as you want to finish.
  6. I am the cache owner of a Top 20 listed cache can I count it as a qualifier? - Yes, just use the date you hid it to qualify yourself.
  7. I adopted a cache that is in the Top 20, can I count it? - Well if you have actually been there where it is hidden and/or completed that caches finding requirements yourself then sure why not.
  8. What if one of my opt in caches get archived before I find the final? - Two answers for that one. If you already found the archived cache you opted in for then it still counts. If you had not found the archived cache yet then you need to make an adjustment to your list.

The challenge here is that you find your chosen 10 of the top 20 caches in Maryland that you opted in for. No tricks!

As Premium Geocaching Members continue to cast their votes for their favorite caches this challenge will continue to change for new seekers for many years to come.

If you are a Premium Geocaching Member and have not cast any of your favorite cache votes yet, what are you waiting for? If you are not a Premium Geocaching Member and want to start voting then become a premium member to start voting.

The cache itself is a very small container. BYOP. The actual hide would be rated as a 1.5/1.5.

Do you like state challenges. At this time there are many other state challenges. I own 3 of them: Virginia, Maryland and Floridia.

NOTE: In September of 2016 I changed this from a top 10 challenge to a top 20 challenge. Favorite points have changed over the years and some states see very little change in the top caches. However most states have 20 really good caches in the top 20 and the point of this challenge is to find good caches in the state. Feel free to lock in a new set of caches or still go for only the top 10, it is your choice.
