Geocache Description:

Blodgetts Landing Lake Sunapee - easy terrain, short walk

This cache is to celebrate our 25th summer at Blodgetts Landing. Indeed the treasure of this cache is not what is in it but the area it is in. Blodgetts Landing is a tightly packed community of cottages on the eastern shore of Lake Sunapee. It started as a Spiritualist’s tent camp in the early 1800s. Eventually where the tents once stood summer cottages sprung up. This is why the community is so tightly packed. During the late 19th century and up till the Depression, Blodgetts Landing became a popular summer resort accessible by several Sunapee Lake Steam Boats. On the shore of Bowles Park where you will start your hunt once stood the casino, a community center and playhouse. It was connected with the rest of the town by a board walk which ran along what is now Lake Ave. Please visit John Greenwood's excellent web site for more history and pictures, (visit link) Its small tightly packed nature makes Blodgetts Landing an excellent place for children of all ages to spend a summer. The children all gather at the town dock / beach. It has a nice sandy beach and the dock is fun to dive off of. The dock also is a great place to fish for pan fish and small mouth bass, and you will always see a kid or two of all ages fishing there. You almost expect to see Andy and Opie walking down the road with fishing poles in hand.

To get to Blodgett’s Landing follow route 103A along the eastern shore of Lake Sunapee until you come to Blodgetts Landing Road. Turn down it, you can only go one way, and go about an 1/8 of a mile to the corner of Bowles Road. At the corner on Bowles Road there is parking for several cars. This is Bowles Park and is a grassy field going down to the waters edge. There are several tables with lots of shade which makes this a pleasant spot for a picnic. On the south side of the park is a small woods. The cache can be found a short walk into the woods. There are a couple of foot paths that lead into the woods. The cache is about 75 feet off the path that follows the shore. When you find the cache please cover it well as there is a lot of foot traffic through here. The cache is a medium Lock-N-Lock container. It is stocked with many trade items and the mandatory log book. After you find the cache spend some time exploring the “village”. If you come around dusk you may experience one of Blodgetts’ magnificent sunsets.

Please rehide the cache well. There is a fair amount of foot traffic in this area.
