Ennen viime vuosisadan alkua oli kultaa etsitty Lapissa vain huuhtomalla. Jokikullan määrä kuitenkin väheni ja huomio kiintyi kullan emäkallion etsimiseen. Vuonna 1898 lähetettiin Lappiin geologinen retkikunta J.J. Sederholmin johdolla tutkimaan alueen mineraalivaroja. Hangasojan varrelta retkikunta löysi kohdan, jossa kvartsijuoni ja syelittijuoni leikkasivat toisensa. Sederholmin mielestä tässä oli erittäin lupaava paikka kalliokullan louhimiseen. Henry Kerkelä sai paikan tietoonsa, valtasi alueen ja ryhtyi kaivamaan kultaa.
Toukokuussa 1902 oli kuiluja jo seitsemän. Kuilu numero neljä oli jo 16 m syvä ja kaivamista jatkettiin. Kuilun syvyys oli 41 metriä, kun työt siellä lopetettiin. Tämä kuilu on edelleen olemassa. Laanilan Kultareitin varrella. Kätkö sijaitsee n. 150 m päässä kuilusta. Reitille voi lähteä ja palata kahdesta eri paikasta:
1. Laanila, nelostie (E75) lähellä Paukkulan risteystä
2. Kutturantie, nelostieltä (E75) n. 1,5 km, paikoitusalue oikealla
Koko reitin pituus on 7,6 km yhteen suuntaan ja se soveltuu hyvin kuljettavaksi myös maastopyörällä.
Mikäli et halua tai sinulla ei ole riittävästi aikaa kiertää koko reittiä, valitse aloituspaikaksi ykkösvaihtoehto; kätkö sijaitsee n. 1,3 km päässä polun alusta.
Before the beginning of 20th century gold was searched for just by panning and washing in Lapland. The amount of gold in the rivers was anyway diminishing and the attention began to be paid for the searching for mother load of gold. In 1898 a geolocic expedition led by J.J. Sederholm was sent to search for minerals in Lapland. Near by the Hangasoja River the expedition found a spot where quartz load cut the way though syelite. Sederholm conisdered this to be very promising for mining gold out of rock. Henry Kerkelä got the information about the place, made the claim and began to dig for the gold.
In May 1992 there were alredy seven shafts. The shaft number four was 16 metres deep and mining still continued. This shaft is still along Laanila Gold Route. The cache is about 150 metres from the shaft. There are two starting and finishing points:
1. In Laanila, on higway 4 (E75) near the Paukkula intersection
3. On the road to Kuttura, about 1,5 km away from highway 4 (E75), parking lot is on the right.
The lenght of the route is 7,6 km one-way. The route is suitable for mountain biking.
If you don´t want or you haven´t enough time for the whole route, choose starting point number 1; the cache is about 1,3 km from the starting point.
