Geocache Description:

My first cache placed in Cozumel, far away from the tourist sites!

I thought this was the first Cozumel cache, but there is actually another cache in Cozumel that was placed before mine: search for waypoint GC7D6 to see this one. Wish I had been able to visit it this year! If only I had done a coordinate search from an Internet cafe once I got to Coz... oh well. For my cache, I tried to select a site with good access that wasn't typically visited by tourists from the cruise ships, and hopefully I found a good place (let me know!). If you venture to this part of the island, you'll be rewarded... there are several excellent attractions in this part of Cozumel that many people never bother to investigate

At the risk of giving things away, let me lay out a few bits of information:

1. You will NOT require a 4WD vehicle, machete or jungle training to reach this cache. You WILL require a moped or rental car to get to the cache site from downtown Cozumel. Note that it will be cheaper (and easier) to rent a scooter than it would be to try and use a taxi. Also, using a taxi would subject the site to unwanted interest.

2. Reasonable parking is available within 150' of the cache site - no need to do anything silly and/or dangerous.

3. Given the number of roads in this part of Cozumel, I don't think you'll have too much difficulty figuring out how to get near the cache site. Your hint: One Heart, One Love.

4. YOU MAY WANT TO HAVE A LITTLE BUG SPRAY ON YOUR LEGS WHEN YOU VISIT THIS CACHE. I didn't have any, and I survived... but if you want to be comfortable some bug spray would be helpful.

5. The cache is well-hidden; you must move a few rocks to locate it. (Needless to say please put them back when you're done!).

6. There is a protected state park in the area - the gate is usually locked, and the cache is NOT IN THERE. So don't jump any fences or do anything else that shows poor judgement!

7. Finally, see item 1 regarding machetes and jungle training - if you find yourself struggling through the underbrush, you're not using your head. (Use the road instead).

8. If anyone passes you while you're searching, pretend to be taking a photo of the object you're near - that worked great for me. Apparently my Garmin handheld looks enough like a camera that no one thought I was too insane.

What else can I say? I took a series of coordinates when placing this cache, and they are accurate to the usual 20' or so. This means there could be a rather large area to search... but since the cache is placed near the only landmark in the vicinity, you should be just fine! ;) Again, see item #1 and #7 and stay calm when searching!

For an excellent Cozumel resource, please visit www.cancunmap.com. (They actually talk about the landmark where the cache is placed).

ANY questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I'll be happy to answer any and all. Next year I plan on putting in a few underwater caches for you scuba divers out there...ALSO please note that there is a travel bug in this cache! Nothing fun attached to it, sorry, but it does have a goal. Hope you can help...
