Geocache Description:

The cartridge was updated on 16th Jan 2022. If you downloaded the cartridge before this date you will need to upload the new version.16th Sept 2023: Please read the HINT. You need this to work out the final location.

There are lots of things about Newcastle-upon-Tyne that the city is famous for, but the seven bridges spanning the River Tyne gorge between Newcastle and Gateshead has to come very high on the list. This Wherigo takes you on a walk to explore the seven bridges and find the final cache.

This is our first Wherigo. There are lots of places to park near the start, but many have charges. You could just as easily walk from the Central Station / Metro to get to the starting point. The whole Wherigo does involve quite a long walk. From the Redheugh Bridge in the West, you will walk east towards the Gateshead Millennium Bridge - exploring the five bridges in between. The walk is not hard, but it does involve a bit of 'up and down' ! You will also find yourself high up on one or two bridges (probably cursing the poor GPS reception because of all the metal-work) so if you don't like heights this may not be for you (or just don't look down!). The 'D' is based on the sometimes dodgy nature of the tech, and the questions you need to answer along the way, and the 'T' on the length of the walk and steep bits.

Please bear in mind the route is not circular, you will end up some distance from the start!

The map below shows the basic route, so you can get a sense of how long it might take.

You will need a Wherigo app for your ‘phone or tablet (we use an Android tablet for Wherigos) and most people will be using the ‘Pocket PC’ version of the cartridge, or a compatible GPSr. Click here to go to Wherigo website.

You will need to download ‘The Tyne’s Bridges’ wherigo cartridge from its page on the Wherigo website. Click here to do this: TheTynesBridges.

When you have explored all seven bridges, and answered a question about each, the final location will magically appear. It’s a good idea to save the game frequently as you move from zone to zone.

This Wherigo was made using Wherigo Kit (http://wherigo.rangerfox.com/), by rangerfox, which is a very easy to use Wherigo builder we would recommend to anyone who wants to have ago.
