Geocache Description:

A quick park and grab, placed to commemorate a sad death.

On January 16, 2004, as we traveled north on Bear Tavern Road from I-95 to our home, we noticed that Jacobs Creek Road was barricaded with crime scene tape. We learned later that the lifeless body of Michelle Nyce had been found behind the wheel of her SUV in the middle of Jacobs Creek, with the vehicle's engine still running. She had sustained severe injuries to her head, and it was therefore to be assumed that she had fallen victim to a single car loss of control fatal accident. Unfortunately, the relative lack of damage to the SUV, together with the footprints in the snow leading away from the passenger side of the auto, told a different story. As the tale unfolded, it was learned that she had actually been a victim of "passion provocation manslaughter" by her husband, following her return from an after-work tryst with her lover--the Nyce's landscaper. Although it's the stuff of soap operas, the tale is real. One account from the time of the death can be found here: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/29/nyregion/sex-lies-and-videotape-and-murder.html?pagewanted=1 . Jonathan Nyce was found guilty of the crime and served five years in prison. While you seek the cache, have a thought for the numerous lives that were affected by this sordid affair. The cache should be an easy find, and you can park almost adjacent to it. The area beyond the cache location is private property; there is no need to venture there. Bring your own writing utensil--there's no credit without your signature, remember.
