This is one of a series of geocaches put out for the annual Windermere on Water event, which first took place over the weekend of June 24/5 2006. This is an easy cache to find hopefully to encourage people to find other caches.
It can be reached by boat, bike or on foot. Water users and cyclists will be able to get the closest before leaving their transport. When you fill in log book, please feel free to describe methods of transport used to find cache.
Free parking There was free parking at National Trust car park Red Nab, or National Trust at Ash Landing or free parking area north of Harrowslack, see additional waypoint below. SLDC pay and display car park at Millerground on opposite shore.
Launching: see Holme Crag and Windermere Station geocaches. Hand carried craft can be launched from Red Nab or Millerground car parks. Owner used to windsurf from Red Nab.
Boat landing. Small shingle beaches all along shoreline, with submerged rocks further out. Shore shelves steeply.
Incorporate other nearby caches into your route. Fairy Tale Castle, Wise End, Windermere Station, Councillor C B Ross, Rawlinson Nab and Latterbug. There may be others ;-) hint
Above co-ordinates will get to within a few metres. Precise location only possible after several minutes for gpsr to average result. Although in a clearing, signal may well be poor from surrounding woodland and rising ground behind. So once near, use clue if necessary.
Otherwise sit down admire the views and activity on lake, have a picnic and let gpsr average position. Bring sit mat, its a long wait.
When recording your visit feel free to describe nearby activity and what method your party used to get here. e.g. on foot, by boat, during MTB trip or on horseback, with keel boats racing round marker buoy.
The Bass Rock after which the cache is named is 240 metres north in the lake. About 5 metres off shore. A popular swimming spot to jump off.
Capped metal pipes buried in Red Nab car park are measuring post holes of southern marker for flying kilometre when powerboat records week was on Windermere.

None of which are swaps.
Cache is a plastic container with clear body. Size 15 x 9 x 5 cm internal. Room for small swaps and calling cards.

Things to remove from a cache and not to swap in the first instance. Food stuff, sweets, batteries, coins, plasters (Band-Aid) anything in a sachet, anything liquid, marker pens.
