===Kilroy Was Here Travel Bug Hotel===
Kilroy
Growing up, I remember my hippie sisters teaching me how to draw Kilroy. I didn't know where he came from or the story behind the drawing, but it was fun to draw.
A few years ago, on one of the Honor Flight Chicago trips, I traveled with a WWII Veteran and told him that Kilroy was on both ends of the WWII Memorial. We both had fun finding and posing with Kilroy. It was an honor to travel with these men and women.
Kilroy is an American pop culture expression that became popular during WWII. The symbol was found etched on walls, equipment, buildings, etc... in the places that United States armed forces were stationed. The legend has it that a shipyard inspector, James Kilroy marked the parts of ships as he inspected them to mark that the items were finished. The drawing caught on and was found all over Europe.
