This cache is a short hike (about .66 miles as a crow flies) in a nice canyon with a creek, after a long trip across some desert valley bottoms. This cache is probably not accessible in wet or snowy times, as there is about 45 miles of dirt road to get there.
This cache is found in an area known as Adaven or Little Cherry creek, that my family used to go camping in when I was younger. My wife and I decided to place a cache here this spring while hiking over the saddle into railroad valley. Most people do not know about this area, and how beautiful it is, yet still in the middle of the desert.
If traveling from Las Vegas or Pahranagat Valley area, you will probably want to plan on an overnight campout, or a daylong picnic. There is about a 45 mile trip on a dirt road to get to this cache, but is usually well kept, so a 2 wheel drive truck or SUV should not have troubles getting there in late spring, and summer months (When there is not too much rain or snow). It would also be wise to fill up on gas in Alamo or Ash Springs. Also watch for desert critters, snakes are found in abundance in this area. Even though there is usually a creek running here, take plenty of water. If you want to drink the water in the creek it would be wise to use some iodine tablets, or other sources of water purification to protect from various bacteria.The cache is a 50mm ammo can filled with a couple of fun goodies for camping/ backpacking. We accessed this area by traveling north from Las Vegas on I-15 to exit 64 and turned west onto highway 93. Then following this north through Alamo and turning north onto highway 318. Follow this north to about the 16.5 mile marker There you will find a dirt road heading north-west. From there I have posted coordinates of various places of direction change or forks in the road.
