Cache is located above the South Carolina welcome center near the Cleveland Family Memorial. A steep hillside is all that stops you from seeing a truly historic place. Currently the 22nd most favorited Cache in South Carolina! If you like it too, drop a favorite point of your own.
I stumbled on this hidden memorial several years ago while walking the dog and was intrigued by the history. At first I believed it to be the actual graves of the Cleveland's but further research shows that the family cemetery was actually under the waters of Lake Hartwell and was only discovered later in a drought as the lake waters receded. The graves were then moved to the town of Fair Play nearby at the Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery, but these markers were placed here, close by the family homestead that stood some 200 years ago. For an added adventure (but no smiley...yet), travel North on I85 to exit 4 and head towards Fair Play. The Waypoint listed is the cemetery where this family is actually buried now. The marker at the Beaverdam Church is to the right most side of the graveyard next the church parking lot.
