Letterbox Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

terrapintim: The cache container was removed so that the hide area could be redecorated. Unfortunately the hide area is now being used for a different purpose, and the cache container cannot be replaced in its original location. In these circumstances I have no other option but to archive the cache. Thanks everyone that took the time to find it, I enjoyed reading all your logs, looking at all your photos, and I hope it added an great memory to your caching collection 😊

Geocache Description:

This letterbox is located in Priory Park. Thanks to geocacher terrapintim and Helen from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council for helping with this cache, and thanks Longman for your help!

Traditional letterboxing is said to of started on Dartmoor in 1824.  It involves hiding containers (similar to geocache containers) and then posting clues to their whereabouts on letterboxing websites.  There is no need to own a GPS to find a letterbox. The clues to the most sought after letterboxes are often not even posted on the internet, they are passed around by word of mouth.

Within the letterbox there is a personal stamp placed by the owner, usually handmade relating to the owner or location.  When people find the letterbox they use this stamp to make an impression in their own log book they carry with them.  The finder will also carry around their own handmade stamp, which they will stamp in the log book within the cache, or sign if they don’t own a stamp.

A big part of letterboxing is collecting all the different stamps from letterboxes.

Letterboxes which are placed through geocaching.com are slightly different, in that at some point during the find there must be a need for a GPS and co-ordinates given.  They are called letterbox hybrids, as they are half way between geocaches and letterboxes.  Clues can still be given in letterbox hybrids

This brings me onto my letterbox hybrid I have hidden. The co-ordinates will take you to the clue to the final location. As you will be searching near the pavilion please don't search for this when it is shut as it may cause suspicion! it is open 9am - 6pm (4pm October - March)

The final location cache will contain;

- A log book to sign or stamp with your personal stamp if you have one.
- For letterboxers my stamp to stamp your own log book.
- An ink pad.

Please don't give away the final location in your logs

This cache has been placed with the permission of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, there is a pay and display car park very close by.
