Mariner Kakuro Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Krypton: As there's been no response to my previous note, I assume that the cache is not going to be repaired or replaced, so I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us, and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it

Thanks for your cooperation!

Mariner Park

Redwood Shores is built on former marshlands and is bounded by sloughs of the San Francisco Bay.  The aquatic nature of the surroundings is carried into the planned community in the form of water channels and lagoons, which are scenic backdrops for several of the local parks.

Mariner Park is a 6-acre, tree-lined grass field that ends at Steinberger Slough.  Parking is available along Tiller Lane.  Note that the grassy area may be soggy during the rain season.

Kakuro or "Cross Sums" is a game of logic that caught my attention when Good Morning America projected that it would overtake the very popular Sudoku puzzles during 2006.  The rules are that each cell within the playing area must contain a number from 1 to 9, which is not repeated within a row or column group.  The number to the right of a diagonal is the sum of the group of numbers to the right of it.   The number below a diagonal is the sum of the group of numbers below it.  For reference, consider these sites:

The cache can be found by solving the following medium-difficulty puzzle to complete the formula for the final coordinates:

N 37° 31.(A-1)BC’ W 122° 14.D(E-1)F’

The original cache contents include a Starbucks card for the FTF prize, a new Green Jeep travel bug and coins.

Game on!
