Geocache Description:

This is a NIGHT CACHE, and by design is very unlikely to be found during the day. It is not easy, as there are hazards along the way. You will encounter uneven terrain, rocks, roots, fallen trees, holes in the ground, slippery conditions, narrow spots, and a potential for hungry wild animals. This is not a park and grab, it's over a 3/4 mile round trip hike through the dark forest. It may or may not be winter friendly. It is highly recommended that you don't attempt this cache alone, nor bring small children with you.

You have been warned.

To successfully complete this, you will need a strong flashlight for each person in the group. Regular flashlights work best, but can be done with LED's. Bring extra batteries. You will need your GPS to locate the first and final stages. If your device supports it, turn tracking on so you can find your way back, in case you get hopelessly lost. Bring your phone. Dress appropriately for the anticipated weather and terrain conditions. A hiking stick might come in handy. So would insect repellant if you do this in the warmer seasons. Mentally prepare yourself for the unexpected.

So, are you up to it? The posted coordinates will take you to your starting point. There is parking close by, in front of the green Forest Service gate. You will need to crawl through, over, or under that gate. At the posted coordinates, slowly shine your flashlight around the area. You will be looking for 3 reflective dots in the shape of a triangle. This is the beginning of the reflector series. From there, each reflector will be a single dot. You will be able to best see each reflector if you hold your flashlight at or near shoulder level. The next dot will be visible from the one you are currently at, however it may or may not be directly ahead of you. Be sure to shine your light slowly in either direction as you come to each reflector stage. In locations where your path may vary in direction, the reflective dots will be closer together. On paths where it is straighter, they will be further apart. Most of the dots will be 3-8 feet from the ground. At some point along the way you will see 3 vertical dots. There you will need to make a sharp left 90 degree turn along an obvious path. Then continue your journey, following each reflector.

When you finally come to 4 reflectors in the shape of a diamond, stop at that location. Immediately nearby will be a clear soda preform tube with the coordinates of the Final inside. It is hidden well, so you will need to search for it. There is no need to open the tube, please leave the coordinate strip inside. From there, input the coordinates into your GPS, carefully return and re-hide the tube, and make your walk to the Final.

You will be looking for a regular sized lockable container, again hidden well. The top of the container has a reflective strip to assist you in finding it with your lights once you arrive at GZ. Be sure to re-hide the container as good as you found it after signing the log.

After signing the log and re-hiding the cache, you are pretty much on your own heading back, there are no reflectors to lead you out. If you have GPS tracking turned on, that will help immensely. You can always just return to the starting coordinates using your GPS as well. If you do decide to head cross country at some point and go direct to the start, there are no guarantees on terrain difficulty or hazards.

As with all our caches, be cognizant of your surroundings, try to be safe, good luck, and have fun!
