Geocache Description:

The cache is located near the old airport terminal complex. Parking is available at one of the suggested waypoints below, in the now unused airport car park (FREE) or it can be done on foot as part of the Salt Lake Series. Be careful if you need to cross the busy dual carriageway.

If time permits, continue along the track beside the salt lake and make the short easy climb to the high ground for a superb 360º panoramic view. This includes the airport, various salt lakes, Hala Sultan Tekke as well as views of the Larnaca Bay coastline and the Eastern Troodos hills. Small effort – Big gain.

Salt Lake
In August every year it produces large quantities of good quality salt, which used to be used for local consumption and export to Europe. In the Middle Ages the lake served as a safe harbour where ships could stop to take in fresh supplies of food and water and where tourists or passengers could disembark. In other words it was a commercial port.

It is not advisable to walk onto the flats even in the height of summer as the baked surface can sometimes give way. It’s not deep, but does make a smelly mess of your footwear!
