CAMPO DE CONCENTRAÇÃO DO TARRAFAL
O campo de concentração do Tarrafal foi inaugurado em 1936 e encerrado em 1954. Em 1962 voltou a reabrir mas só para elementos das ex-colónias. Foi definitivamente fechado após o 25 de Abril de 1974.
The Tarrafal concentration camp was opened in 1936 and closed in 1954. In 1962 the camp returned to reopen but only for elements of the former colonies. It was finally closed after April 25, 1974.
O Tarrafal era conhecido como "o campo da morte lenta" em Cabo Verde, construído pelo regime salazarista na Ilha de Santiago para receber presos políticos.
The Tarrafal was known as "the camp of slow death" of Cape Verde, built by the Salazar regime in the island of Santiago to receive political prisoners.

Visitar o campo de concentração do Tarrafal é viajar até um passado recente, onde eram cometidas terríveis torturas, onde os presos perdiam tudo .... menos a dignidade e a remota esperança do dia da liberdade. Para uns esse dia chegou, para outros a morte foi o destino!
Visit the concentration camp of Tarrafal is to travel to a recent past, where there were commited terrible tortures, where prisoners were losing everything ...least the remote hope of freedom day. For a few, that day arrived, for others the death was the end!
