The war memorial stands in the middle of a busy junction. Please take care, especially with mini-cachers.
The Memorial
At the junction of High Street and Clay Street stands the memorial commemorating those from Soham who lost their lives in World War 1 and 2. . The main memorial takes the form of a standing infantry man with head bowed and hands resting on his rifle above the.inscription, 'For Valour'.
The names of the fallen are in columns on each side of plinth. The whole stands on a two-stepped base. There are 128 names for World War 1 and 42 for World War 2.
A second memorial stands behind the first and commemorates the Soham railway disaster, which occurred on 2 June 1944.
The Cache
The location of the geocache can be found by answering the following questions:
- Beneath the words, 'A crown of life', number of Kings + number of Leonards + number of Palmers = A
- The time of the Soham rail disaster = B.CD am.
- The number of letters in the surname of the first person listed on the front of the memorial = E
- The number of wooden flower planters surrounding the memorial + 1 = F
Due to changes beyond our control, the cache has had to be moved a few metres from its original location. The new co-ordinates for the final are as follows: N 52 19.AC(D+6) E 000 20.E(F-3)(B+6)
