Geocache Description:

Flash Cache
"Fishing" Event

12:00 pm (NOON!)  Sunday, May 20th

A Flash Mob Gathering of Geocachers

Only 15 minutes long!

You MUST be present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Please BYOP! (Bring your own pen)

Flash Mob Cache Event (aka A Flash Cache Event)

We would like to host a caching event to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

This event, however, will be quite unique, creative, be the first of it's kind (as far as we know of) and might be the fore-runner of a new type of event.

You're heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons (see Flash Mobs on Wikipedia) but never before for geocaching. Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at 12:00 pm (NOON!) on Sunday, May 20th.

The event will be held at N41°04.888 W85°08.263. This is in an open public space, near a fountain at Freimann Square, Fort Wayne. The event will seemingly be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. A minute by minute itinerary will be posted here 1 week (or so) prior to the event. We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event.

At exactly 12:00 pm (NOON!) (as determined by the GPS clock) Mr. I!, your host, will place a bucket full of "fishing" poles at the #2 Location.  Two volunteers will sign in participants at the two #1 Locations in the picture. Participants will need to sign the log sheets to qualify for attendance. Bring a pen. Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket, at Location #4 at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade.

After signing in, get a fishing pole from Mr. Incredible! at Location #2, and "fish" in the Freimann Square fountain.  (Try to look "casual," no actual fishing is allowed!)  (The poles are considered event "swag" and you may take it with you when the event is over!)

If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching.

At a designated time, we will hand out an appropriate snack to all attendance for the event "meal".

At 12:12, we will take a group photo, all participants will need to go to Location #3.

At precisely 12:15 the bucket, and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace.  Events that happen after 12:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event.

Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

We hope to gather a "good showing" of cachers at this event. Tell your friends and help promote the event.

Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. Free parking can be difficult to find. If you can't find parking you might miss the event!

We're sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?"

The Other Concurrent Flash Mob Cache Events:

We will need several volunteers to help out.  We need two people to sign cachers in, someone to handle the SWAG bucket, and someone to take pictures during the event.  If you are interested, please contact Mr. Incredible! through his profile.

UPDATES WILL BE POSTED BELOW-

UPDATE: May 13 - Instructions for next Sunday's event

If you are interest in being a volunteer for the event,
please contact Mr. Incredible! through the website.

Flash Cache “Fishing” Event (GC12PB0)

May 20, 2007

11:45 - 11:59 am

Participants : Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can, sit and read, take pictures of the park, check out the statue of General Wayne on his horse, etc. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of no-where.

12:00 pm

Mr. Incredible! will walk to Location #2 (you’ll recognize him!) with a bucket of fishing poles. This is the signal that the event has begun!

Make sure to get your log sheet and schedule from either Location #1and sign in

Participants : fill out log sheets and drop them in the collection box

Participants : fill out nametags with caching names and stick 'em on

Participants : get a “fishing pole” and your “Cache Snack” bag of fish crackers from Mr. Incredible! at Location #2

12:00 - 12:14 pm

Participants : “Fish” in the pond, mingle. Share stories. Brag. Trade SWAG at Location #4. Take pictures. Sign the log (sheets). CITO the local area!

12:12 pm

Participants : Go over to the Group Picture area (Location #3) and assemble FAST. Listen to the photographer for directions.

12:14 pm

One minute warning is called "It is now 12:14!"

Participants : Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are prepping to leave. (You might want to "secretly" organize where you will re-form after dispersal.)

12:15 pm EXACTLY

Participants : Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area (precisely at 12:15, Mr. Incredible! will pick up the bucket of fishing poles and leave.) Participants need to leave in a disorderly manner / different directions, and meet elsewhere if desired.

The bucket of swag will be packed up

The log sheet collection box will be packed up

We will leave the area to go ... elsewhere.
