The Muddy Brook Wildlife Management Area is a 1,937 acre tract of land managed by the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. The Muddy Brook Valley contains a large extent of fire-influenced ecosystems known as barrens. These barrens are home to about 75 species on the Massachusetts Endangered Species List. Restoration efforts by MassWildlife in 2019 included removing generalist species and prescribed burning, with plans to continue prescribed burns in the future to maintain the barren ecosystem.
