Geocache Description:

The medieval Ston developed on the site of ancient Illyrian settlements. Illyrians were tribes and clans of an ancient people that inhabited eastern coasts of the Adriatic before the Roman conquest.
The early medieval town Stamnes (or Stagnum) was situated in the northern foothills of Gradac hill and in the valley of Stonsko Polje, and it was a significant political and religious centre of the area. The area abounded in early Christian churches. Over time, however, these churches were abandoned and today almost all of them are in ruins.
The most valuable one is the Church of St. Michael, on top of Gradac hill (also known as St. Michael's hill), probably built in 11th century. This pre-Romanesque church is now reconstructed and its fresco paintings are restored, which makes it one of the most beautiful monuments of the area.

Starting from Ston, the hill of St. Michael is well visible and you can choose the most suitable way for yourself to approach it. At N 42°49.918', E 017°40.634' the path turns straight up to the top (98 m).
The cache is a plastic container. Original contents of the cache: logbook with a pen, extra pen, CD, strap, used phone card, keychain, seashell, coin, and a toy.
