The Ringo Kid is a character played by John Wayne in Stagecoach, the 1939 Western film directed by John Ford. It was his breakthrough role and propelled him to stardom after a career spent largely in B-movies. Ford shot much of the movie and many of his later Westerns in Monument Valley, a scenic desert area that straddles the Utah-Arizona border. I had the pleasure of driving through it a few years ago and it is breathtakingly beautiful.
The cache is a medium sized lock’n’lock container hidden in a small patch of woods next to a strip shopping center, just a short bushwhack from parking. It lies between Rte. 1 and an aptly named side road. Enter from that side road at the provided coordinates and park behind the shopping center for the easiest access to the hiding spot. I had some trouble getting a good satellite read due to tree cover, so please let me know if anyone comes up with better coordinates. The area could use a little CITO, but much of what’s dumped there will be too big for anyone to carry out.
