HÈRCULES.2 – EL FUNDADOR DE BARCELONA
Segons la mitologia, Barcelona va ser fundada per Hèrcules, l’heroi roma, fill del déu Zeus i de la mortal Alcmena. S’estima que la va fundar al voltant del segle XIV a.c, uns 400 anys abans de la fundació de Roma.
Ho va fer amb la col·laboració del seu germanastre Hermes, deu del comerç, les arts, missatger dels deus i protector dels viatgers. Qui sap si va ser de casualitat que Hèrcules fundes Barcelona o perquè Hermes el va guiar fins aquí...
Tot va començar fa uns 3500 anys, quan Euristeo va usurpar el tron d’Hèrcules a l’Argólida i per mantenir-lo ben lluny li va encomanar dotze treballs, dels que confiava no sortís viu... Però al finalitzar el quart d’aquests treballs Hèrcules va ajornar-los per anar a ajudar al seu amic Jasón, que tenia un problema similar al seu. Dons Jason per recuperar el tron de Yolcos, tenia que provar el seu valor, trobant el Velló d’Or.
Per això Hèrcules es va unir a l’expedició dels argonautes que amb una esquadra formada per nou barques, van creuar el mediterrani buscant el Velló d’Or. Però quant eren a la vora de la costa catalana, una gran tempesta va dispersar la flota i una de les barques es va perdre.
Després d’un intensa recerca, Hercules va trobar les restes del naufragi de la "barca nona" (barca novena) als peus de la muntanya de Montjuic. El lloc li va semblar tan acollidor a Hèrcules que va decidir quedar-se i fundar una nova ciutat a la que donarien el nom de l’embarcació que els havia portat fins allà, Barcanona, que amb el temps passaria a dir-se Barcelona.
Des d’aquest mirador heu de trobar la representació de la “barca nona” que una dona sosté amb les mans a llom d’un cavall. Quan us acosteu podreu veure que Hermes lidera l'expedició, tirant del cavall per les brides. Es una obra de Frederic Mares realitzada en bronze al 1928 en el context de la Exposició Internacional de Barcelona.

HERCULES.2 – THE BARCELONA FOUNDER
