Geocache Description:

MISHNISH LOCHS
Loch Meadhoin

The cache is one of three drive-bys north of the Mishnish Lochs that lie in the Mishnish district of Mull, south-west of Tobermory, along the B8073 (Dervaig) road.

The Mishnish Lochs comprise Loch Peallach, Loch Meadhoin and Loch Carnain an Amais, which became linked when the water level was raised to create a reservoir. The lochs support rare aquatic plants of conservation importance, are fished for wild brown trout, and are often host to a range of wildfowl and other birdlife.

The contemplative value of the lochs is considerable, and the three caches in this mini-series offer an opportunity to enjoy peaceful landscapes. All the caches are drive-bys, and lie on land owned by the Forestry Commission, who have kindly granted permission for their placement. But please be considerate when parking.

Those who don't mind a little boggy walking will find the path leading from the derelict croft at the roadside (NM475527) to Crater Loch (Lochan 'S Airde Beinn) an agreeable experience, with a surprisingly wide view across northern Mull.
