SK: 21. augusta okolo piatej hodiny ráno zobudili popradčanov neobvyklé zvuky prichádzajúce k centru mesta. Kolóny obrnených transportérov, tankov a vojenských gazíkov prichádzali do mesta po Levočskej ulici k námestiu. Podľa pamätníkov vojská prišli do Popradu z východu po ceste od obce Hozelec.
Skupina ľudí sa rozhodla prejazd kolóny zastaviť a na začiatku námestia urobili zátaras Tatrovkou s miešačkou betónu. Kolóna sa na určitý čas zastavila, no okolo poludnia dostala rozkaz pokračovať a Tatrovku zrolovali. Niekoľko nahnevaných ľudí začalo na tanky útočiť a niekto hodil fľašu s horľavinou na jeden z tankov. Vtedy tank spustil streľbu, ktorej obeťou sa 19 ročný Jozef Bonk.
V noci z 20. na 21. augusta 1968 obsadili Československo vlastní spojenci. Vojská Varšavskej zmluvy (Zväzu sovietskych socialistických republík, Poľskej ľudovej republiky, Maďarskej ľudovej republiky a Bulharskej ľudovej republiky). Sovietske okupačné vojská, ktoré mali byť v našej republike len dočasne, odišli až po podpise dohody v Moskve 26. februára 1990.
Tragické udalosti pripomína popradčanom tabuľa s menom Jozefa Bonka a poškodený roh budovy na Levočskej ulici. Ten poškodil tank sovietskej armády, keď 21. augusta prechádzal okolo.

EN: At around 5 o'clock in the morning on August 21, the people were awakened by unusual sounds coming to the city center. Columns of armored vehicles and tanks came to the city along Levočská Street to the square. According to old people, the troops came to Poprad from the east on the way from the village of Hozelec.
A group of people decided to stop the passage of the column and at the square they made a barrier with a Tatra concrete mixer. The convoy stopped for a while, but around noon he was ordered to continue and Tatra was rolled up. Several angry people started attacking the tanks and someone threw a bottle of fuel at one of the tanks. At that time, the tank start to firing, and 19-year-old Jozef Bonk was killed.
On the night of August 20-21, 1968, Czechoslovakia was occupied by its own allies. Warsaw Pact troops (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Polish People's Republic, Hungarian People's Republic and Bulgarian People's Republic). The Soviet occupation forces, which were to be in our republic only temporarily, did not leave until after the signing of the agreement in Moscow on February 26, 1990.
The tablet with the name of Jozef Bonk and the damaged corner of the building at Levočská street reminds the people of tragic events . Corner was damaged by Soviet army tank as it passed by on August 21st.
