Welcome to Mavis Island on Eyak Lake. This Island is now the home of the Cordova Boy Scout troop 624 and you may pass the gate if it is up to access the cache. The island is at the end of a long "spit", which separates the lake into two sections. You will notice that on the right hand side the water will have a high turbidity and generally a bluish or brackish look to it, while on the other side the lake is generally deep and dark, but relatively clear. The left side is also home to many Alaska Floatplane and is a popular place to swim and boat for locals.
This cache is an educational cache put into place by the Junior High Intermediate STEAM class on the last day of the 2016-2017 school year. It was placed on the island with permission of the boy scouts. .
Cordova Jr-Sr High School is one of the top schools in Alaska, in 2016 it was ranked as the best high school in Alaska according to US News and world report. This was the first year that the Intermediate STEAM class had been taught at the school and the first year for any geocaching in the curriculum.
This cache has been placed as a final project in our class where we learned about Geocaching, coding, drones, rocketry, and 3D printing. We hope you enjoy the cache.
