13:13 på Tretten Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

13:13 på Tretten

The old train station on the railroad Dovrebanen.
To the non Norwegian speaking people it is needed to inform you that Tretten is spelled and pronounced the same way as the number 13 in Norwegian.
Through the history the trains stopped here at 13:13. If this was planed or coincidental I don’t know but I was told that at one time the time table was changed to 13:15 but lot of travellers and locals disliked it and it was changed back to 13:13 at Tretten immediately.

Tretten is today a place most people just passes by on there way through Gudbrandsdalen by train or by car. The history goes many years back and I have tried to reveal some of it by placing some caches in this area.

The railway came to Tretten in 1894, this meant much for the development of the community, as it did to most places in Gudbrandsdalen as the railroad got further north. The station was important for distributing cargo and passengers to the area. For the nearby tourist and recreation areas, it was essential in the older days to have a train station close by.
Some may remember the terrible train accident that happened here in February 1975. It is the largest train accident in Norway, 27 persons was killed. The two trains collided at Losna just a few kilometres north of the station.
The station is no longer in service and most of the main building is now privately owned.

This is a palatca style micro so bring your own pen.
Beware of mugllers working close by in daytime.
The high voltage power lines can influence the GPS slightly.
The cache is a 24/7 and available in winter.
