Geocache Description:

My Favorite Bench is a regular cache set in a beautiful location in Gatineau Park. The bench in question is set on a giant rock with a spectacular view over Meech Lake. You will earn the view as the bench is near the top of the escarpment and you have to hike up some steep grades to get there.

The cache is located at the end of trail #28 which you can get to from either trail #3 or trail #21. For those of you with an older map the cache is at the end of Les Remparts which you can access from Burma Road or Huron Trail (thanks Kenmore!). For the nearest parking you can choose between Champlain Lookout or P12 (Meech Lake), both of which are approximately 4km from the cache. The hike is much easier from Champlain Lookout and the parking there is free. I think you have to pay to park at P12 and the trail out of this parking lot is steep and goes uphill for 2km. When I placed the cache, I hiked from P7 (Kingsmere) which is 10km from the cache and is the more rugged. Parking there is free. Other caches nearby include Bog Shelter Cache and Bikes’n’Boards.

The cache is hidden on the left side of the trail about 20 metres from the bench under a small rock overhang. Be careful. The terrain drops off considerably nearby but the cache is within 5 metres of the trail. The cache container is a small Tupperware container. This is not a winter friendly cache.

Come for the view and keep trade items small. Currently there are several muffin recipes there for the taking. Good luck and enjoy the hike!
