Hi everybody! Calling all cachers in the area! White elephant swap:
When: Tuesday, July 10, 2018
Time: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Where: at the carpet company where we have had other cache events in the past, outdoors if the weather cooperates, inside the spacious, inviting garage if it does not! (Old Glenn Hwy in Chugiak, just south of North Birchwood Loop.) There is a convenient coffee kiosk in the ample parking lot!
Why: geocaching fellowshipping and fun!
Retrieved tonight (6-18-18), dictionary.com explains that "a white elephant is a possession unwanted by the owner but difficult to dispose of."
Wikipedia informs the reader that "the goal of a white elephant party is usually to entertain rather than to gain." White elephants are also known as Dirty Santa or Yankee swap.
Now that we understand this much, the goal of this event is to bring your own "white elephant" to swap. Value should realistically be between $5 and $15.00. This may be a gift you received but never wanted or perhaps something you "just had to have" when you bought it, but now you wonder why. We had a similar party last winter in which we exchanged books and movies. That was a lot of fun.
There will be a special table set aside for children to bring their own white elephants (in good condition and clean, please). This will be for kids ages very young through 5th grade. Parental supervision could be a good idea here.
People who don't find anything they want may take their own elephant back home if they wish. You may find something you can't imagine using, but it could make good swag!
Prizes will be offered for the most unique white elephant (decided upon by the event hosts).
fuzzybelly generously suggests that food will likely be available. If you have special dietary restrictions or needs, please bring your own snacks or eat before coming. We still want to enjoy your company! A drawing will be held as well.
The new caching guidelines have been studied and followed. Please log whether you plan to attend. Watch for future announcements in case any changes must be made. We can't wait to see you - and your elephants! Cache on!
