In the suburb of Balatonszentgyörgy stands Csillagvár (means Starcastle), got its name from the shape of the building.
It was built as a hunting-house for the Festetics family in the early 1800s. Today it's museum exhibiting the life in a defend-castle in the Middle Ages. It's a nice, but today a bit too commercialized excursion destination for the whole family, with snack bar and playground; ideal with kids.
Beside the castle stands the biggest brick factory of Hungary with a huge mine pit. A great percent of the Hungarian houses were built from this brick. The decades ago working industrial monument old brick factory with a circle oven is in very bad condition today.
The forest of Somos can be seen beyond the fields above Csillagvár. From there you can have the same beautiful view to the West as from the Somos look-out tower to the East. It's worth to walk up here, at least for the cache.
