As you stand near the posted coordinates, you will see the impressive Monmouth County Park System Visitors Center. It was recently reconstructed after being completely destroyed by fire a few years ago. The fire was started by a contractor working with a welding torch to install rain gutters and then fueled by gusting winds. Over 100 firefighters fought the blaze but in the end the building was destroyed. They did manage to save most of the majestic trees that surrounded the mansion and the original chimneys. The current building is, in outward appearances, very similar to the original. The inside however has been completely modernized to include an elevator, sprinkler system, offices and exhibit space dedicated to the history of the Thompson Park & the Visitors Center. To complete this puzzle I recommend stopping by the visitor center. You'll learn all you need to know and lots more! It is open on weekdays from 8 to 4:30 and weekends from 10 to 4.
