Beyond The End Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

TheQuintoBubs: We actually visited this one right around the same time and we too could not find this one. The terrain in the area has changed pretty dramatically since we first posted this one, so we are going to let this one go slowly into the heavy ocean night.

Geocache Description:

A Micro placed at the ruins of an old Barn on a bluff overlooking the ocean.

“I can’t believe this barn is actually gone now”, Savannah said as she ran her fingers through her gray hair.

The old grey cement foundation posts stuck out through the overgrowth, this ocean bluff in what is now a State Park in Half Moon Bay, CA.

Orion remembered too.

He remembered their long walk up this beach. It was Savannah’s twenty something birthday (he couldn’t quite remember which one exactly) and they had just finished their volunteer work at the barn.

“Wasn’t that when we met Sharla?” Savannah continued, although Orion barely heard her as he was still lost in his own memory.

“Uh huh”, he replied, although not quite realizing what it is she asked.

Sharla was a sleek girl, smooth rubberized skin with jaunty whiskers. Her voice had a raspy edge to it, probably from all the seawater, Savannah always said. Sharla had followed the couple as they walked down this stretch of beach many moons ago. The three had a kinship on that day, a kinship they would relive for many years before Sharla presumably passed on. She basically just stopped showing up for their yearly encounter, although the couple didn’t fret over it. It was just a natural progression.

Here, now, Savannah and Orion sat on the bench in the middle of the overgrowth looking at the barn’s foundation and the wonderful seascape, the little pieces of what was a mighty structure back fifty years.

Orion never said anything to Savannah about the day they met their friend Sharla the seal, but Orion knew his connection to Savannah had solidified that day.

And yet, as the couple talked to Sharla each year afterwards, she somehow knew as well.

And probably (hopefully) still knows.
