Eco-Tourism Center at Racalmas (GCROKO)
Only 60 kms from Budapest, the Duna Ecotourism Centre is located in the heart of the country, beside the Racalmas Islands Natural Reservation.
Both families and groups of friends can find ways to relax and be active on the area of the Ecotourism Center (at the neighbours of Jankovich manor), as it sports exhibitions on folk art and gastronomy, workshops of local craftsmen, plus a multimedia room. Groups of students are also welcome. The open air theater offers concerts, theatrical and folk dance performances regularly.
The Ecotourism center has a breathtaking view of the Big Island of the Danube at Racalmas. The island has a particularly rich flora and fauna, and the a study trail leads you through it with 17 stops. Each stop is equipped with large size tables indicating points of interests. The trail is spotted with rainhuts and points for birdwatching designed to fit the environment. In this special floodplain location visitors can watch species already extinct in other parts of the country.
Those who prefer spending their free time in a more active way can either ride the bicycle path that runs on the riverbank down to Dunaujvaros or use the harbor that can house a max. of 50 boats.
The Ecotourism center can be accessed from M6 from the direction of the Racalmas - Kulcs exit lane through Racalmas's main street. When you are at Racalmas main square, you drive past the crossing towards Kulcs, then turn left to a driveway on the left that leads you to the main enterance of the manor. Aftert this you can find the parkin lot, too.
You can enter the area 24 hours, but the buildings and the shows can only be visited during the oening hours. During the summer the manor is open 8am-8pm.
