There once was a speedy hare who bragged about how he could four times faster than any other animal. Tired of hearing him boast, Mr. Tortoise, challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch.
Mr. Hare sprinted nine meters down the road and then and paused to rest. He looked back at Mr. Tortoise and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?"
Mr. Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax."
Mr. Tortoise walked and walked, and even though it took him much longer he quickly passed the six meter mark and he kept on trucking. Before he knew it he as crossing the twenty-three meter mark and the end was in sight. He walked the whole race and never stopped until he came to the finish line.
The four hundred and twenty eight animals who had gathered there to watch cheered so loudly for Mr. Tortoise as he approached the end, that they woke up Mr. Hare.
Mr. Hare stretched and yawned and began to sprint again, but it was too late. Mr. Tortoise was over the line.
After that, Mr. Hare always reminded himself, "Don't brag about your lightning pace, for slow and steady won the race!"
The Moral of the Story is... The race is not always to the swift.
