Dorking Heritage Trail 1 (AA-08) Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

BaSHful: Long promised, much delayed, it's finally time to say goodbye to all my Amazing Adventure caches for all the reasons previously mentioned.

However, I have not yet collected in the cache containers, which might not be for a few days or even a couple of weeks. I will post a further note here when I have done so.

In that interim period I will still accept 'Found it' logs, if there's anyone left who's desperately keen to make a find.

BaSHful.

Geocache Description:

Solve the cipher or solve the maze - your choice!

Either way you first need to walk Dorking Heritage Trail 1 and answer these questions. You have the options of:-

  1. Just winging it from the co-ordinates given.
  2. Picking up a free leaflet from the Dorking Halls (N51 14.089 W000 19.509).
  3. Visiting http://www.visitdorking.com/explore/walks-and-trails/the-thames-link/ for further information, guide and map.

This cache can usefully be combined with Dorking Heritage Trail 2 (AA-10) as you can collect all the required information for both caches in a single visit. Aditionally, don't forget Church Micro 134...Dorking St. Martins which is just a few yards away.

Note: Having collected all the answers, it is likely that you will need to return home to convert them into co-ordinates. The technologically sophisticated may be able to manage it in the field.

Choice 1 - The Cipher

First you need to translate any answers that contain numerics. For example: If the answer to question 7 was 450, you would have to replace that with fourfivezero. Next concatenate together all your answers (no blanks). You now have the key for the below Vigenere cipher:-

uvfrcwgvcdxyopbvromgkhzlmhyfphqplchpyraujqczuinjlvybvslwj
dccmvoyklcjkuxkwacnktlbeimtkwhaggvkxamalzjxzdvpcfpyaphxpo
lnciccqndfwbynzrulmubzquhlachtheekqbtrpgfxyczclgaywhlxoir
qiulyieghnrxiwnfzwmydmtagayuxvtgngkwbmtfuwnlyvjahrkiksvjx
You should assume N51 and W000.

Choice 2 - The Maze

Note: The below link leads to a web page on my personal website containing a java applet (same as for all my previous caches). For this to work you need to have the java runtime environment (JRE)installed on your computer (which it usually is by default). If you have any concerns about running java applications on your computer then you should probably stick with trying to solve the cipher.

See the Instructions link to learn how to navigate the maze. You might also consider looking at the 'Tip' link.

Either choice

Once you've got the coordinates it's a simply cache and dash with obvious nearby parking. The container is at the bottom end of the 'regular' size, so please don't bring along any bulky swaps. The log is to be found inside its own little pot inside the main container.
