Geocache Description:

Dickey bridge a little piece of history.

Dickey bridge is almost new. The old bridge washed away on April 9th. 1991 when a historical crest of 37.89 feet swept water and ice down the river during the Spring thaw. The Flood stage for the river at Dickey bridge is 25 feet. The old bridge was the gateway to the very Northern most reaches of the Northern Maine Woodlands, an area of some 800 square miles, plus or minus. A temporary bridge was put in place until this higher, wider and more ice jam resistant bridge was built by the Maine Department of Transportation. Visit the Aroostook Museum at the entrance to the bridge for lots more information.

Google (Dickey, Maine Bridge) for a video of this spring's ice jam and flood. The camera gives 15 minute snapshots of the river's comings and goings.

The cache is a 2"x4"x6" Lock and lock box with a log, pencils and some trade items. Enjoy you visit to this beautiful corner of Maine.
