Geocache Description:

A lovely walk down a woodland path and access to a grassy area with a small children's park in one corner. The container has changed as the local wildlife seemed to like playing with plastic boxes. I've upped the difficulty rating as I think this is much more difficult now. Based on a geocache I stumbled across in Ireland recently.

Abbey Recreation Ground was once within the lands of Merton Place estate owned by Lord Nelson, where he lived form 1801-1805 immediately prior to his death at the Battle of Trafalgar.

The Recreation Ground is predominantly open green space that is used for playing fields, with perimeter path and trees. To the north is a woodland path between Merton Park and Morden Road that you can access from the Morden Road or the end of Melbourne Road.

There is a children’s playground in one corner that we call “The Triangle Park”, suitable for primary school age children.

On a nice sunny day you can take a picnic rug, watch a bit of cricket, have a quick swing in the park and bag a couple of caches within easy walking distance.

The cache is a little different now, no space for a pen or other bits - no spoiler photos please. Please approach from the woodland path.

I’ve taken several GPS readings and the dense tree coverage seems to affect the accuracy so this is an average - hopefully good enough.

Placed with the kind permission of Merton Council. Thanks.
