Geocache Description:

An easy walk to one of the hidden natural wonders of Lake Tahoe, called balancing rock.

This is a quick walk right off highway 89, a little ways past emerald bay.
There is a thirty ton boulder balanced on just two points of rock. A lot of locals don't even know this spot, so enjoy this hidden treasure! There are rock climbers in the area sometimes "bouldering". This is where rock climbers practice the hand holds and foot positions for bigger climbs. If you look at some of the larger boulders you will see chalk marks where they have been practicing.

There is a nature trail at this spot, if you enter through DL Bliss Park, you can get a brochure that explains the flora and fauna of the area by numbered signs.

This property was once owned by the Bliss family who owned the Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company. They had a railroad and flume operation that transported the trees from tahoe to the mines of Virginia City. About seventy percent of all the trees in the basin are second growth trees. A good portion of the slopes of tahoe were stripped BARE from 1865-1880.
