Geocache Description:

I feel the need ... the need for speed
BLL: Billund Airport

Congratulations to First Finder: møllermortensen

Beskrivelsen i denne cache er på engelsk af hensyn til internationale rejsende

The title "I feel the need ... the need for speed" is a quote from one of my all time favourite movies featuring F-14 Tomcats and F-5 Freedom Fighters (the latter starring as MIG-28s in the movie) - you probably guessed the title already.

This series of caches is a tribute to all the airports around the world.

BILLUND AIRPORT
Billund Airport is the second largest airport in Denmark and was built back in 1961 by LEGO founder Godtfred Kirk Christiansen as a private airstrip - initial length was 800 meters.
In 1964 the airport was expanded and on November 1st the airport was inaugurated as a public airport.

Runway 09/27 was at the time only 1660 meters long but in 1971 it had been extended to its current length of 3,100 meters - it is large enough for the Boeing 747 to land.
The runway is equipped with ILS CAT III capabilities - allowing equally equipped planes fully automatic landing in zero visibility conditions.
