Geocache Description:

The 48th parallel passes through or close to many famous cities and towns, this one is not. Just a quick grab for the numbers.

48th Parallel Maynard, Washington

maynard washington along the 48th parallel

Maynard (originally Junction City) is an old mill community along US 101. The name "Maynard" appears to be that of Sidney P. Maynard (1861 - 1916) and Henrietta Maynard (1860 - 1929) who are buried just a short distance from the cache at Maynard Cemetery. Home of the Discovery Bay Cemetery Cache.

The Maynard mill was in operation until the 1970s.

The abandoned sawmill was a popular sight for tourists, and appears in many nostalgic area photographs and paintings.
