Purple Coneflower is one of my all time favorite flowers and have many in my own gardens at home.
It's scientific name is Echinacea and it is part of the daisy family. This name is derived from the Greek word ekhinos, meaning hedgehog. Echinacea was highly valued as a medicinal herb by Native Americans as well as early settlers, treating weeping wounds, boils, abscesses and snakebite.
