An afternoon event of pulling up invasive non-native Sitka-spruce saplings to help ensure the growth of native Scots-pine trees, a staple habitat & food of our beloved red squirrels.
This section of Hazlehead Park is one of the few areas within the Aberdeen city boundary where red squirrels can be seen and so it is of special interest to ensure that the habitat here is suitable for them, and will make them want to remain.
If we are lucky, we might see some on the way to the site but if you fancy a much better chance, then head here bright and early in the morning at 7.00am, when the ranger team are leading a 'Silent Squirrel Safari' until 9.00am!
The CITO event will run from 12.30 - 4.00pm with all gloves being provided by the ranger team (who might also be on site with some tea/coffee/biscuits if we are lucky) so don't worry about getting sore hands pulling up the saplings. :)
Parking is available nearby, as well as a regular local bus service with a stop a little way down the road. (see additional waypoints).
I will wait by the parking area from 12.10-12.30 to help lead the main team of volunteers through the woods to the work-site. For any cachers arriving after this time, please follow the route information given in the parking/waypoint notes if you do not know the area.
