Geocache Description:

Ruins of one of Union General Herman Haupt's rapidly constructed Civil War railroad bridges.

First in a series of little known Civil War sites around Virginia. No hiking required. This is the bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County that Lincoln declared to be constructed of beanpoles and cornstalks. Prove you found it: Who assisted the dizzied Secretary of War Edwin Stanton off the bridge by holding his hand?

Note: the historical plaque has been repaired.
