History:
The Lovicks family built many huts, the original hut in this current location was badly damaged by fire in 2003. It became a hazard concern and deemed unfit for habitation so Parks Victoria dismantled it in 2006. A rebuild commenced soon after however progress was slow and stood as a frame only for a number of years. Eventually the new version was completed and is a huge space offering refuge in times of emergency.
The current hut has a steeper pitched roof to better deal with the snow season. It is gabled over large poles with iron roof and walls. There is a simple veranda along the front.

Using the huts
Except for a few on private leasehold, all huts remain unlocked, and freely accessible by all. There is no booking system and no fee.
All we ask is that you respect the huts and those people that spend many hours preserving and maintaining them.
If you use a hut, please keep your fire small, and do not write messages on the walls. ( it will be removed anyway ). When you go, take all your rubbish with you, leave the hut clean and close the door.
Note : We do not condone use of huts for overnight accommodation, as in most cases they do not meet Building Code of Australia requirements.
