Today is ” Dönerstag ”!

You may ask, “What is Dönerstag?” Or in German it would be “Was ist Dönerstag?“
In 2017, Groundspeak is celebrating geocaching around the world. You’re invited to join Signal the Frog as he travels to different countries to geocache like a local. No plane ticket required!
Signal’s first stop: Germany. On Thursday, April 13, players will gather to celebrate the 11th annual Dönerstag, an annual tradition that began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time. These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name “Dönerstag” a pun: The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag.” Kebab translates to “Döner.” Last year, over 6000 players attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
But you might be asking “What does that mean to us in the United States?” Well the lily pad is releasing a special piece of geoart and you can earn the first-ever Dönerstag souvenir for anyone who attends an event on Thursday the 13th. So I thought it would be fun to move the BWTG event forward a week and let all attendees get a twofer today!

So come join the gang on the second Thursday to not only get the usual smiley, but also get Dönerstag souvenir to boot!

The event??
Breakfast With The Gang. Breakfast With The Geocachers. Bulging Waistlines Totally Grew. Breakfast With The Goofballs. Beware When Travis Geocaches. Breakfast With Team Geochef. Best Way To Geocache. Breakfast While Talking Geocaching. BWTG="Brian-Wussy; Travis-Greatest".

Call it what you want, but whatever you call it, it IS good food and great company. So let's get together, talk caching, and eat! Kommen Sie hast frühstücken mit der Bande!

When?
Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 6:30am - 7:30am. (Oh yes, AM, in the morning, bright and early, rise and shine sleepy head). You may stay longer if you'd like, that depends on what time you have to show up for work or be somewhere else.

Where?
We will be meeting for a good, hearty breakfast at Cracker Barrel, just South of I-94.

Who?
Everyone is welcome at the event!

What Do I Bring?
Bring a good, hearty appetite and be ready to share some of the best memories you have of geocaching; including, but not limited to, best caches, best events, best hospital story, best encounter with local law enforcement authorities, etc.

Celebrating a Milestone?
We want to know! Post it on the event page and you'll be acknowledged here as an official part of this event's history!

What do I do AFTER the event?
If you don't have to go to work or be somewhere else, we suggest you get out and cache!!! Either alone or with one of the groups that will, undoubtedly, be formed before, during or after the event. A great geocaching day can start here and then head north to cachetoburn’s event “Donerstag Grand Prix” in GR. A twofer with a lot o'fun inbetween!
