As we anticipate that there will be heavy traffic to find these geocaches, so please practice the very best of geocaching ethics. Therefore it is very important that you be well aware of muggles and carefully replace the geocaches after you have found and logged your find. And don't forget to record the code word!

If you discover any problems with the geocache, a quick e-mail to 3MudDogs through my profile on geocaching.com will be very greatly appreciated by the geocachers that will come behind you.

The Hopkins Demonstration Forest is the result of work begun by Howard Hopkins in the 1960's on his Grouse Hollow Tree Farm in Beavercreek, Oregon. Hopkins held foward-thinking ideas about how forests should be managed and he wanted a place to realize this dream. During the next three decades, Hopkins worked his land, clearing thick brush and planting thousands of trees to transform the cutover slopes into a productive forest.

When Hopkins passed away in 1989, his family wanted Hopkins’ dream to continue. They wanted to see their family owned tree farm to continue as a sustainably managed forest to share with the community. The idea of a demonstration forest, owned and managed by a non-profit emerged. Local forestry professionals and tree farmers volunteered their time and talents to create the non-profit in the fall of 1990. Today, the Hopkins Demonstration Forest is managed as a model for family owned woodlands.

The forest showcases a variety of approaches to forest management. Visitors can observe and participate in the management activities. Tree planting, brush control, riparian improvements, pruning and harvesting are just a variety of products on the property. There are several areas of varying age and a mixture of tree species.

People are welcomed during daylight hours, all year round. Nearly three miles of trails crisscross the forest, connecting those that visit with a myriad of habitats and forestry demonstration areas.

Information was gathered from both pamphlet and online sources.

This should a fairly easy walk to the cache from the parking area. No need for much bushwhacking. Stealth will be needed as muggles do frequent these trails.

Also, check out the information booths up by the parking lot area. There you will find information you might find helpful to make this a two-fer cache stop.
