10th ANNIVERSARY OF GEOCACHING
at the

, Oregon
***May 1, 2010***
1:00
pm - 4:00 pm
Please join us at:
The Redland Grange
Hall
18131 S. Fischer’s
Mill Road
Redland,
Oregon
Redland is just 7 minutes from the
“Original Stash”(GCGV0P), so we have planned for a
large turnout.
There will be door prizes, food,
socializing, and caching!
Visit with cachers who love
this sport as much as you do.
We will have light
refreshments available and TBs and coins for trading or
discovery.
**** This is a
"finger food" potluck
****
Please bring either
simple appetizers or snacks.
(Let
us know in your log what you plan to bring.)
The Grange Board
of Directors have given us permission to have finger foods. (in
other words, no utensils needed)
So please keep that in mind
when deciding what you will bring. There is a list of
suggestions on our website forum
thread.
If you have any questions, you
can reply to the threads at www.georegon.com .
10 Caches for 10 Years
Challenge
There are
10 caches placed for the "10 Caches for 10 Years
Challenge". They will be published prior to the
event.
In each cache you will
find passports and self-inking stamps. Take a passport and stamp it.
Take the passport with you and each time you find one of
the challenge caches stamp your passport with the stamp in the
cache. (Do not take the stamp) You are required to find 7 of the
10 caches to have your passport entered in the drawing for one of
three GEO 10th Anniversary of Geocaching
Coins.
AND our
10th Anniversary coin will be available for
purchase.
Everyone is welcome. This is a
great opportunity to bring friends
that you would like to introduce to
Geocaching.
A Brief
History of Geocaching
|
|
May 1, 2000
|
President Clinton turned off Selective Availability
(scrambling) of GPS Signals, thus enabling civilians to use
satellites for navigation. |
May
3, 2000 |
To celebrate this momentous event, Dave Ulmer hid a
bucket of swag in the woods near Viola, Oregon. He posted the
coordinates to sci.geo.satellite-nav. He invented geocaching in
that newsgroup posting. He laid out the rules of take something,
leave something and sign the log. |
May 4, 2000 |
The "Original Stash" was found. Within a few days more
stashes were hidden in other states and within a month one was
hidden in Australia. "GPS Stash Hunt" was on it's way to becoming
the hobby that is enjoyed by over 3 million people throughout the
world. |
May 30, 2000 |
Matt Stum coined the term "Geocaching", to get away
from the negative aspect of the word "Stash". |
Today there are almost
1,000,000 caches around the globe.
