Geocache Description:

"If a man can’t find happiness on a little farm in Wisconsin, he hasn’t the makings of happiness in his soul." —Nick Engelbert,artist-farmer, 1881-1962 A Nice little Farmstead on a hill in Wisconsin, parking lot to the farm is just south of the house and out buildings.

This is a place of enchantment that one man created in a small farm in Wisconsin. If you are expecting just your run of the mill Wisconsin farmstead, you are in for a surprise.

A brief history: In 1930’s, Nick Engelbert began to build an elaborate arched porch of concrete around the front entrance of his farmhouse, ultimately covering every inch of the outside surface of the house with concrete inlaid with shards of china, glass, beads,buttons, and sea shells. Over the next 15 years, Nick created more than 40 concrete sculptures in his yard, combining patriotic themes with imagery from history, fairy tales, mythology and his own imagination. At the age of 70, no longer able to make sculptures, he turned to painting, producing over 200 oils before his death in 1962. Many of the statues have been restored or recreated. The house, now a museum, contains many Engelbert artifacts, family memorabilia, and copies of Nick's paintings. The Grandview site is now owned and operated by the Pecatonica Educational Charitable(PEC) Foundation, Inc. Thanks to Ricky Rolfsmeyer and The Board of directors, for allowing this multi-micro cache. For a more detailed history, facts, tours, activities and points of interest please see the web page: (visit link)
This place has wonderfully creative sculptures and art work. My family has enjoyed numerous visits to this site, but be aware that this is a place for enrichment of the eyes and not the hands. A lot of the artwork is being restored, and after 50 years out in the Wisconsin elements, the words of delicate and fragile come to mind. So parents of young ones, keep a close eye on them, as with mine, they just want to join in with the sculptures. Please restrain them. A pocket full of change is a great alternative, for the little ones to drop a donation into the house chimney, or the monkey grinder’s hat. Donations are gladly accepted here.

On to the multi-micro cache, the enchantment of this place makes you feel like your just discovered something lucky. What 4 letters do you come upon with your irish luck and your GPS unit? Your first and final cache location is not located near any exhibits, and this multi-micro cache doesn’t require you to venture off the main paths at all. Now for the second step...Look at what contains the 4 letters, look at it as if it was growing and as you would a clock. Starting at high noon and going clockwise, we will have letter number 1, followed by letter number 2, 3, 4 (all in clockwise order). Determine the nurmerical place in the alphabet for each of these letters, which will be used as the values for these letters below. Now with this
knowledge, the micro is located at: N42.52. ABC, W89. 56. 8DE The clues for the letters is as follows:

A = Letter 2 (value=nurmerical place in the alphabet)- Letter 3 + letter 1
B = Letter 2 + Letter 1
C = Letter 3 - Letter 1
D = Letter 3
E = Letter 4 + Letter 2 - 10

Insert these new values for the letters into the coordinates, and whalla a micro is located in the vicinity. Please remember that No Traveling off paths is necesary for any of the parts of this multi-micro. Happy Trails
