Park at the Palmetto Trail parking area located on Foxville Road. To get to the parking area you can use Foxville Road from US76/378 or take Middleton Road from SC261.
As you begin to reach your destination you will be crossing Beech Creek, in the middle of Wateree Swamp, that supports a larger variety of wildlife throughout the year. The true nature of the swamp begins to appear starting from this point and continuing to the river. Recent clearing in this area has created open spaces that are being well populated by woodpeckers, wading birds and many different swamp creatures. They provide unique vistas of the open swamp as you travel along the trail beyond this hide.
The cache is a plastic jar and it is available without having to leave the trail gravel. Being quite a distance from the parking area, this is a great section of the trail for biking or hiking, just be sure to bring water, sunscreen and bug repellent.
Be aware of the possibility for snakes, spiders, wasps, ticks, mosquitoes, ants and other creatures you expect to see in a swamp. Have fun and enjoy the View!
